A win could never be bad, or could it?

Meadowbrook turned back Thomas Dale 89-77 in the Central District semifinals a week ago after the Knights had won the previous two meetings this season.

It was all the motivation the Knights needed to dispatch of the Monarchs 76-61 in the Central Region semifinals Friday at VCU’s Siegel Center.

“We put that score up and said we gave it to them,” Dale coach Eddie Goss said. “We felt like they really didn’t beat us and we beat ourselves.”

Few teams could beat Dale on this night, as the crimson clad squad registered a 24-8 first quarter that effectively put the game away.

Meadowbroook played tight quarters from there on out, but the damage was done as Andrew White was on his way to a 30-point, nine-rebound performance.

“I just wanted to attack. They had been on me all year about settling for the jumpshot,” White said. “Early I found some openings on [Marvin] King-Davis. He’s a tall defender, so I just wanted to try to go at him a little more than I usually would, and it ended up paying off.”

White got ample support from senior Malcolm King, who turned in 20 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. Myles Turner put in 10 as well for the Knights, and Airek Green added nine.

For Meadowbrook, Jaquan Daily wrapped 17 points up with 18 rebounds, 10 on the offensive end. Andrew Simmons dropped 19 points for the team lead.

Now Dale moves on to an all-Central District region championship with unbeaten Petersburg (26-0) on deck, Monday, March 1 back at the Siegel at 8 p.m.

“We’ve got to play within ourselves,” Goss said. “We’ve got to make sure that we take care of the ball on every possession, that we defense the ball on every possession. That’s what they do.

“So we’ve got to match their intensity.”
