BLOG

Welcome back to DigitalSports!

Stephen Lewis, senior editor, back with you again. It is insane in Henrico’s gymnasium right now.

Patrick O’Connor and Freeman are going nuts in the final semifinal, up 24-10 on Meadowbrook.

O’Connor has nailed three treys already – he’s in the 3-point contest by the way – and has 11 points through seven minutes.

The Rebels are playing with tremendous intensity, trying to take Meadowbrook’s Henrico Tourney crown. Stay here to get the low down on what’s going on.

Freeman leads 26-11 after one period.

SECOND QUARTER

Meadowbrook is turning the ball over left and right. Freeman’s already in the bonus, Justin Mann just missed the front end of a one-and-one with 7:00 to go.

The Monarchs are showing life behind Devin Morman, he has all six points in this period for the Monarchs who trail 26-17 at the 6:25 mark.

Marvin King-Davis gets loose inside, uh-oh, here comes MBK!

Jaquan Daily gets big in the paint off a feed from KD, 28-23 Freeman. But fouls are hurting the Monarchs, Mann goes back to the line.

Let’s see…he misses the front end. Freeman is headed back to the line after a nice drive from Philip Rohrer. He drops in both FTs, Freeman 30-23, 4:13 to go in the first half.

What a comeback, Andrew Simmons drops in a 3-pointer from the left corner as Meadowbrook climbs within two points, 34-32.

35 seconds and counting, Mann stalling, trying to get last shot of half.

Rohrer misses a layup, Mann takes another charge. I think that’s three for him in the first half, WOW!

Rohrer makes up for it off a feed from O’Connor, 36-32 going to the half. Whoa, what a nice game so far. Best of the tournament yet.

Rohrer leads Freeman with 15 points, O’Connor still has his 11. For MBK, King-Davis has 10 points.

Stick and stay for more action!

THIRD QUARTER

Daily scores inside again, 39-36 Freeman with 5:21 to go in the third.

Rohrer at the line, puts in his 16th point. Another goes in, 17 points for Philip Rohrer as Freeman is up five.

Mann knocks in a jumper for Freeman, 43-36 as the Rebels try to reach another double-figure lead. No says Harry West, a beautiful drive and lay.

Mann is being physical with the drive and getting calls. All of MBK’s little guards are in foul trouble. Well, all of MBK is. King-Davis just picked up his third foul.

4:13 to go, Rohrer at the line, hits another. And another, lead back to seven, 45-38.

This is crazy, Mann draws another foul. Freeman is already in the bonus, 3:41 to go in the THIRD PERIOD. WOW, big problem for MBK.

He hits the front end, and the back end. Nine-point lead.

Down to six, as West hit a three for a 3-point deficit, but Rohrer came back with an old-fashioned three. Daily cleans up his own mess and Meadowbrook is back in business, down four, 52-48 with one quarter left.

FOURTH QUARTER

Rohrer is a monster, he scores inside. That’s 24 points for him, a game-high by far.

It’s 62-51 now, 4:55 left. Daily is at the line. MBK needs these. Bonus one is off, Freeman takes control, in double-bonus.

8-0 run by MBK, Harry West caught fire. He drops in a nice layup and gets fouled. The FT is good, nine-point run. DF 62-60 with 3:05 to go.

Mann is fouled, he’s at the line. First is good. By the way, Rohrer is 11-11 at the charity stripe. Mann gets both, 64-60.

That was the quickest 6-0 run I’ve ever seen! Meadowbrook with its first lead of the game, 66-64 with 2:14 to go. If you aren’t here you missed a treat.

No worries though, I’ll have video of this classic up tonight!

Mann hits two FTs. He’s 9 for 12 for the game, 16 points total. The Rebs need him to score to be as potent as they can be. 2:09 to go, tied at 66.

Now tied at 68. Tough call on Freeman, King-Davis to the line. The first is off.  26 seconds left, second is good!

Freeman races up, O’Connor launches a trey, no good. West to the line with 14 seconds, misses the first. AND THE SECOND, but Jaymon Tucker is there for the offensive rebound and puts it in.

Timeout Freeman with 7 seconds to go. Coach Larry Parpart probably drew something up for Rohrer or O’Connor for trey. Let’s see.

Andrew Simmons steals the inbounds pass, Deshawn Morman runs the clock out, MBK going back to the final, 71-68!
